Motorsport legend and former winner of the Monte Carlo Rally, Paddy Hopkirk, has died aged 89.
The Belfast-born racer’s loss of life was announced by Mini Sport on Friday.
In a statement, the group said it was with ‘heavy hearts’ that they have been asserting the loss of life of the driver.
Paddy Hopkirk famously won the prestigious race in a Mini Cooper S.
A spokesperson reported: “Paddy was a fantastic good friend to all of us here at Mini Activity, but so significantly extra than that, he was a section of our Mini relatives.
“We would like to increase a unique thank you to Paddy for anything that he has finished through his illustrious occupation, each for Mini Sport & the Mini itself… Paddy attained the impossible, he cemented the Mini in history & will be without end identified as 1 of the finest motorsport heroes of all time. He will be sorely skipped by all who experienced the enjoyment of understanding him.

Tributes have been flooding in on social media far too.
The British Rally Championship reported: “We are deeply saddened to discover of the passing of Paddy Hopkirk.
“Famed for his exploits in a Mini, Paddy was a Rallye Monte Carlo winner and 5-time Circuit of Ireland winner.
“His cheeky individuality will be sorely missed.
The governing system for environment motorsport, FIA, claimed: “The FIA pays tribute to former Rally driver Paddy Hopkirk, who handed absent at the age of 89. Starting off his career in 1955, he gained 5 Circuit of Eire & the Rallye Monte Carlo in 1964.
“He was member of the @BRDCSilverstone due to the fact 1967. Our ideas are with his relatives and close friends.”
