The Krakenberg Kellison

I’ve often had a thing for the Kellison. There’s just something about the air streamed body with an undeniable Italian influence mixed with the probable of a Chuck Manning created chassis that speaks to me. Of system, the Kellison never arrived at its opportunity on the race keep track of and perhaps which is a further explanation I love them so… The unmet likely evokes desires of a redo and views of what could have been.

And so when I saw Dennis Krakenberg’s ’61 J-5 at this year’s Round Up, I knew correct absent it was heading to get a person of my picks. I also wanted to shoot it, but the car exhibit ecosystem manufactured that tricky. Decided, I arrived up with a prepare.

I experienced brought my previous vacation trailer out to the demonstrate and figured I could remain at the location  overnight and if almost everything worked out, the solar would nonetheless be with me very well just after all of the spectators had walked by means of the gates. It labored and at all over 8pm, I uncovered myself all on your own with the Krakenberg Kellison.

You could try to remember Krak’s Kellison as the outdated Mooneyes motor vehicle. In a prior lifetime it was owned by Tom Duttrey and painted yellow with Mooneyes livery. Tom purchased the motor vehicle by now run by a w-motor and shifted by means of a 4-pace. He included the Individuals, some trick plexi perform, and sorted a couple of additional facts just before marketing the car or truck to Dennis.

And Dennis? He did not fart around… He took the car or truck to Phil Leonard (Syrarum Colour Studio) and told him to go nuts with flake, gold leaf, and whatsoever the hell else he had on hand. The outcome is without having issue the wildest Kellison ever assembled. And whilst I want my Kellison’s to have a extra 50’s period Grand Prix vibe, I cannot argue with this J-5’s 60’s period drag aesthetic.

In any circumstance, enjoy this mini shoot/attribute. I could have taken much more shots, but honestly… This was a single of those people moments when I didn’t really want to get dropped behind a digicam lens. As magnificent as this car displays in my mediocre pictures, it is far far better in individual.
